Backend Developer (3-5 Years Experience, Node.js, Python)

Pollen Tech Pte Ltd is seeking a Mid-level Backend Developer to join our team. The successful candidate will work with a cutting-edge B2B marketplace for buying and selling excess inventory sustainably, and contribute to the company's goal of achieving a zero-waste world. Pollen Tech automates bulk transactions for overstock and near-expiry inventory, provides sustainability analytics, and offers pricing intelligence to help customers liquidate potential business waste. In 2024, Pollen Tech helped customers to ship over 400,000 KG of excess inventory to more than 20 countries. As a Back-end Developer, you will be an integral part of the team responsible for maintaining and developing Pollen Tech's platform.

Type: Full-time (with Probation period)

Working Schedule: Monday - Friday, 9 AM to 6 PM (GMT +8)

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services, including RESTful APIs and microservices

• Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code following industry best practices

• Develop and maintain automated tests to ensure code quality and support regression testing

• Optimize server-side logic and distributed systems for performance, reliability, and scalability

• Participate in peer code reviews and propose improvements to enhance codebase quality

• Monitor, profile, and resolve performance bottlenecks in production environments

• Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes and tools

Background:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field

Qualification:

• 3–5 years of professional experience in backend development

• Background in VC-backed startups, ideally in e-commerce industries with high adaptability skills in a fast-paced environment

• Strong proficiency in Node.js (4+ years) is a must and experience with Python; familiarity with Java or Ruby is a plus

• Hands-on experience with FastAPI, Docker, PostgreSQL, Redis, and Celery

• Solid understanding of RESTful API design and microservices architecture

• Experience with SQL and NoSQL database design, optimization, and management

• Strong foundation in system design, computer science fundamentals, and web architecture

• Experience with AWS and other cloud platforms; understanding of core cloud-native technologies

• Proficient in containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes

• Familiarity with source control (Git) and setting up/maintaining CI/CD pipelines

• Exposure to frontend technologies (e.g., JavaScript) for cross-functional collaboration

• Proven experience building secure, high-performance web applications

• Fluent English communication (written and verbal)
